Wildest Dreams
She's taken home Grammy's Album of the Year and Time's Person of the Year, but Taylor Swift also (sort of ) picked up a Spirit of Cincinnati award!
Taylor Swift had a pretty good week.
She became the only person – ever – to win a Grammy for Album of the Year four times.
Taylor Swift had a pretty good year.
She became a billionaire, played sold-out shows around the world, and was named Time’s Person of the year. Oh, and her new boyfriend is playing in the Super Bowl.
Capping off all of those accolades, though, has to be the Spirit of Cincinnati Award. While she didn’t technically win, the astonishing power of her Eras Tour and awe-inspiring fervor of her fans were the catalyst for the Swiftinnati Taygate at The Banks, which was presented with the Erich Kunzel Queen City Advocate Award. recognizes those whose actions have attracted positive media coverage of the Cincy region.
Erich Kunzel Queen City Advocate Award recognizes those whose actions have attracted positive media coverage of the Cincy region. The award is one of the Visit Cincy Spirit of Cincinnati Awards, which annually recognize the influencers and advocates of the local hospitality region who have gone above and beyond to drive the Cincinnati region forward.
"Swiftinnati" offered a safe space for fans to gather and also offered a media room for visiting journalists to have a place to rest and learn more about the region. Cincinnati was featured in more than 300 stories leading up to and after the concert, including a front-page story in the Wall Street Journal. In total Cincinnati saw more than 446,000 media impressions and an ad equivalency of more than $7 million dollars.

And the Nominees Are
Take a look at the Oscar nominees with ties to the Queen City and check out the continued success of Film Cincinnati
The road to the Academy Awards runs through Cincinnati. This year’s Oscar nominees have plenty of connections to Cincinnati, according to Kristen Schlotman, executive director of Film Cincinnati
“Barbie:” Actor Ryan Gosling shot “Ides of March” in Cincinnati in 2013 with George Clooney while Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach shot “White Noise” in Ohio two years ago.
“The Holdovers:” Director Alexander Payne was in Cincinnati in 2019 for a Netflix untitled feature, along with producers Chris Stinson and Amy Green who shot the Zak Effron movie, “Extremely Wicked,” about Ted Bundy in NKY. Producer Mark Johnson produced “Rain Man” in Cincinnati. Nominated Best Actor, Paul Giamatti also starred in “Ides of March” in Cincinnati.
“Killers of the Flower Moon:” starring Robert De Niro, who was in Cincinnati last year filming “Wise Guys/Alto Knights,” which will premiere this fall.
“Maestro:” actress Maya Hawk shot “Wildcats” in Louisville last year with many Cincinnati crew and producer Steven Spielberg who is originally from Cincinnati.
Jeffrey Wright, nominated for Best Actor, starred in “The Public,” with Emilio Estevez, filmed in Cincinnati in 2017.

With all of that star power, it’s little wonder that Cincinnati was recently named one of the Best Places to Live and Work in the U.S. film industry by MovieMaker Magazine. Cincinnati remained #11 on the list of one of the most prestigious industry accolades offered for film commissions. Film Cincinnati, which is dedicated to attracting, promoting, and cultivating film, television, and commercial production throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, supported 26 projects in 2023.
Among Film Cincinnati’s projects in 2023 were “Alto Knights” (formerly titled “Wise Guy”), directed by Barry Levinson, and starring Robert DeNiro, which will be released in the fall of 2024, and “Nutcrackers” starring Ben Stiller with filming in locations throughout Greater Cincinnati over the last two months.
A new study on Film Cincinnati’s economic impact shows the local film industry brought in $258 million dollars to Greater Cincinnati between 2019 and 2022. The report by the UC Economic Center also shows the film industry created 1,873 jobs during that same time.
Film Cincinnati was a chief lobbyist this year in support of an increase in the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit. In support of the film industry, state lawmakers voted to pass the tax credit increase, from $40 million to $75 million, starting in July 2024.

Summerfair's annual poster competition is now open! Artists are invited to submit design concepts now for the always collectible poster.
Summerfair Cincinnati Poster Competition
Interested in submitting a design for the 2024 poster competition?
Poster objectives:
To inform the public about Summerfair; including mandatory information specified in the competition rules
To convey that Summerfair is Cincinnati’s premier annual celebration of art and artists
To provide a marketing tool that promotes the event
While Summerfair is held at Coney Island (east of downtown Cincinnati), Summerfair is a non-profit organization that is NOT affiliated with Coney’s day-to-day park or pool venue, therefore, no images related to Coney, should be included in the design.
Winning artist receives $3,000.
For details and to submit, visit www.summerfair.org/poster-competition.
Odds are you’ve seen one of Summerfair’s iconic posters. You may even have a one or two in your own home.
Each year, Summerfair commissions an artist to create a new poster exclusively for the current year. The poster serves as the cornerstone of the marketing campaign and is destined to become a collector’s item.
Because of that, the poster’s design has to be adaptable for multiple uses, including the billboards, programs, T-shirts, tote bags and other merchandise.
Judges will review all poster entries in January and choose a few entries to present to Summerfair’s members, who then vote on the winning design. The screening committee is composed of selected Summerfair Cincinnati members and professionals in the art community.

I’m a 55-foot Concolor Fir. Commonly called a white fir, we’re pretty much the ideal tree for a holiday celebration.
Where are you from?
Mansfield, Ohio. Go Pioneers!
Did you always want to be a holiday tree?
When you’re a little sapling in a forest, you always hope you’ll have the chance to be part of a holiday celebration.
But I never imagined I’d be at the center of such a great tradition as Light Up the Square! To be chosen as the holiday tree for a whole city – and be in so many pictures with families – That’s pretty amazing!
What’s been your favorite thing about Fountain Square so far?
I love the ice skaters! The music is playing all day and it’s so much fun to see people (of all skill levels!) on the ice and having fun.
It’s also fun to be at the corner of Fifth and Vine. I understand that’s a busy and popular intersection! I feel like I’m really in the heart of the city and get to enjoy the excitement of the season.
Every once in a while I can also get a glimpse of river, which is pretty cool!
What are you most looking forward to seeing in Cincinnati?
I’m ready for the lights!
We’ve done some tests but I’m looking forward to have the lights on All. The. Time. And of course, having the star lit. It’s beautiful!
